The Grudge

Hi all, been ages since I posted anything to do with a work in progress. this is basically because I’m rubbish at remembering to take pictures while I’m painting. Another thing is that I am like a Mayfly with something else on it’s mind when I’m painting. At the moment I’m in the middle of a few things models some of which I can’t show due to contest rules but these include Dark Swords Male Ranger, Reaper’s Lara Kraft, which I was lucky enough to get a pre-release copy of from Miniature Heroes. This is going to be painted for Sarah’s birthday later this year but I need to start on a suitable Tomb Raider style base.

IMAG0223This also came in the post this morning and I can honestly say I am itching to paint it. Again it’s a Reaper miniature, called The Grudge and it’s huge; on this plinth it’s 155mm tall. I need to do some plans for this because he needs a facial tattoo and I plan on blending him into the base.

Avatars of War, Ogre

Ogre-ConversionI am painting this chap for the AOW contest over on WAMP. As you can see I have decided not to do him the usual flesh colour be decided on a more chaos/evil looking ogre. I have added a single horn from the right side of his temple that I sculpted out of greenstuff then pinned to his head. I then added some rough skin/scar tissue around the base of the horn to blend it into his head better. Most of the metals I decided to go for a real rusted and well used appearance ad he would have had these before being tainted by the evil forces but the skull belly armour I decided was a gift from his new masters and as so would never tarnish.

Most of his skin was painted with my airbrush which was a new thing for me to try. I still need plenty of practice with that before I would do the same on a serious piece:)

The base I have made (not shown yet) is a simple grass, mud and rock affair on a resin disc. I actually painted the grass and rocks with the airbrush then finished it all off by hand. I also plan on adding a small puddle.

Again, still plenty to do and so little time.

Dark Sword Miniatures, Frog Mage

FroggieFrontFirst off I’m painting this for my partner Sarah and as an exercise where I can try new techniques. He’s a great little sculpt but needed some prep work to get into a position where I could paint him. There are still loads of things to do not least his pupils and a fair amount of tidying up but so far I’m pretty pleased with how he’s turning out :). I also gave it a shot painting some cloth texture onto the back of his robe.

FroggieBackI am also planning to paint the metals using the NMM style and then I will have some OSL to do on his right shoulder, face and inside the bend of his hat given off from the flame on top of the ball he’s holding.

I then plan on basing him on a small plinth and adding some ground works and static grass and well as some bulrushes which have been made with some vey thin straw and small blobs of greenstuff.
